Veterans of Life and War

The streets are crowded, but no one is there.
Bodies everywhere, but the person is not.
What happened to the interaction of life,
in a world so broken with pain.
There was a memorial today of the lives lost long ago.
Celebration of there demise and unfortunate end,
but never known or celebrated when they were alive.

It's easier to hold on to the memories when that which gave it to us is gone.
No one to threaten them.
No one to challenge them.
Memories of love, sadness, anger and survival.
Unique to the holder.
A distorted emotion.
Facts lost, feelings won.

A never forgotten friend or foe,
is in our mind and forever living in our soul.
